Latin American Match Dominoes

This variation canasta is recommended to Domino fans who prefer a faster and easier game than those described, It is the favorite lunch hour pastime of millions of Domino fans in the Caribbean Islands and in Latin America, The rules for Standard Partnership Block Dominoes apply with the following exceptions:

  1. Each hand played is counted as a full game, and the winner records a win on his score sheet simply by drawing a short vertical stroke, Each time he wins a game he adds another stroke, The strokes are kept in groups of five to make counting them easier,
  2. Penalty points held by the losing partnership are not counted or scored,
  3. The player who holds the double six always starts the game,
  4. A match ends when a partnership scores 10 strokes (games) and the winners collect the previously agreed upon stake, but the winning partnership must score 10 strokes before the opposition has scored 5 strokes, If a partnership's score shows 6, 7, 8, or 9 strokes and the opposition reaches a score of 5 strokes, both scores are canceled out and the match ends, The next game begins a new match,

All Fives

All Fives also known as The Five Game, Sniff, and Muggins is the most popular form of Dominoes in the United States, (When this game is played as a partnership game, it is usually called Five-Up,) The rules for Standard Partnership, Standard Three-Hand, and Standard Two-Hand apply, except as follows:

  1. The object of the game is to score exactly 61 points, which are scored not only by winning hands but also by scoring points during play, The scoring is based on multiples of five,
  2. The scoring during play is accomplished as follows:
  1. The total of the numbers on all open ends is noted after each play, and if the total adds up to five it counts 1 point; ten counts 2 points; 15 counts 3 points; and 20 counts 4 points; and so on, To score during play you must playa domino which added to or subtracted from the total of all the open ends will total five or a multiple of five, If the total is six, add four to make it ten and score 2 points (ten divided by five is two); or take off one and make the total five, scoring 1 point,
  2. The scoring of the hand is figured as follows: For instance, if a player or partnership wins the hand by 36 points, he or they score 7 points only (36 divided by five equals seven-forget the fraction),
  1. Each player draws five dominoes be it a two-, three-or four-hand game, The remaining dominoes become the discard pile,
  2. The starter of each hand may play any domino he wants, The first double played is open to play on all four sides, no matter when it is added to the layout,

Fives and Threes

This game is played like All Fives except for the following:

  1. Multiples of both three and five are good for points on the table, and points are awarded on the basis of 1 point for each spot, Thus, ten spots would be good for10 points as a multiple of five; nine spots would be good for 9 points as a multiple of three; 15 spots would be good for 30 points as a multiple of both five and three,

Diamond

Each of six to nine players takes three dominoes each, The player having the highest double sets it, The layout has only one open end, and each player must play on the last previously played domino, anyone playing a double (including the starter) may playa second time if able, The winner is the first player to go out, or the player with the least number of penalty points in his hand after a block game is effected, Players usually ante before the draw and the winner takes the pool,

Bergen Game

The Bergen Game is played the same as the I Standard Partnership and the Standard Two-and Three-Hand Draw Games except for the following:

  1. If there are two or three players, each takes six dominoes; if there are four players (partnership) each draws five dominoes, The remaining dominoes become the discard pile,
  2. The holder of the lowest double starts each new hand, Starting the lowest double is called “double heading” and scores 2 points for the starter, Should no one hold a double, the lowest-ranking mixed-number domino is led, There are no points for such a play,
  3. The object of the game is to make as many double headers and triple headers as possible,

A double header is made by playing a mixed number domino to an open end of the layout so that the two open ends possess the same numbers, This counts 2 points,
A triple header is made by playing a double to an open end of the layout so that the two! open ends possess three same numbers, a triple header counts 3 points,

  1. Game, When there are three or four poker seasons players, game is 10 points; when there are two players, game is 15 points,
  2. (a) A player who calls “Domino” goes out, wins the hand, and scores 2 points.

Tiddley-Wink

This is a Block Game except that six to nine players take three dominoes each. The player having the highest double sets it. The layout has only one open end, and each player must play poker on the last previously played domino. Anyone playing a doublet (including the set) may play a second time, it able. The first player to go out wins; if play comes to a stop before that, the lightest (lowest spot count) hand wins. Players usually ante before the draw and the winner takes the pot.

Forty-Two

Forty-Two, or Domino Rounce as it sometimes is called , is not played like other domino games that revolve around the domino layout. The object of the game is to take in (win) tricks and to capture point-scoring dominoes in tricks. Each trick is worth 1 point, while every domino whose spots total five or ten is a point-scoring domino and is worth the total of its spots. The rules for the Standard Partnership Block Game prevail except as follows:

  1. There are four players, two against two as partners.
  2. Each player draws seven dominoes.
  3. The players study their dominoes and the bidding follows. The player holding the 1-0 mixed domino bids first. Each player in turn may make one bid and no more. However, a player may pass instead of bidding. The lowest allowable bid is 30 and each successive bid must be higher than the previous one.
  4. The Play. The highest bidder leads a domino, which becomes a trump suit. If he leads a mixed number he must specify which number he intends as trump. There are eight suits: blanks, doubles, and the numbers from one through six. A lead calls for each other player to follow suit if able; the domino of the suit led having the highest value wins the trick, unless a trump domino has been played. The winner of the trick takes in the four dominoes which constitute the trick. When a trump is not led, the highest single mixed number determines its suit. Doubles take any trick of their suit.
  5. Scoring. Each trick counts 1 point. The 5-5 and 6-4 dominoes are valued at 10 points each; the 5-0, 4-1, and 3-2 dominoes are valued at 5 points each. This adds up to a total of 35 and, with the 7 points in scored tricks, the highest possible total score is 42.
  6. After the seven poker tricks have been played, each side totals the points in trick and scoring dominoes. If the bidding side makes more points than it bid, it scores the bid plus the amount of its total score. If the bidding side fails to make its bid, it scores nothing and its opponents score their total won in points plus the sum total of the bid.
