Afterthought: The Game Itself

As you can see, many of the ideas presented in this section are built upon those general concepts covered earlier in the book.

For example, playing in short-handed games is similar to, though not the same as, playing in a full game after several people have passed.

When you sit down to seven card stud eight-or-better, you should ask yourself, “How aggressive is this game?” As has been pointed out, if the game is tight and aggressive, you probably should leave.

But a tight games and passive game is reasonably profitable once you have become an expert player.

Also, you will recall that there was a great deal of discussion in this section concerning how a seven card stud eight-or-better game should be run.

Don’t underestimate the value of this information.

Much of your “earn” will come from having the opportunity to play a lot of hands – that is, if the dealer is proficient in his or her job.

You can help ensure that the game is conducted in an efficient manner, and it is frequently important that you do so.

Otherwise the game often will slow down, errors might get made that could cause arguments, and some of your opponents may get out of a gambling guide mood.

Put another way, you need to make sure that your bottom-line expectation will not be reduced.
