Occasionally you will be fortunate enough to be dealt rolled-up trips, one of the two best starting hands in seven card stud eight-or-better.

If your trips are high and it appears as though a lot of players will be in the pot, you might as well play your hand fast, stay right to the end, and see what happens.

You should try to build as big a pot as you can.

It doesn’t much matter whether you are heads up or in a multiway pot. When against only one opponent, you get to scoop more often.

Against many opponents, a low usually will be made and sometimes you will get scooped; however, you generally will split and occasionally will even scoop a big pot.

When your high trips are queens or kings, it will look as though you have only a big pair and are raising just to limit the field.

Thus the low hands will play very hard against you. When your trips are between eights and jacks, you might want to play a bit easier so you can trap one or more high hands and then attempt to punish everyone on a later street.

If you play these hands fast at first, it will look as if you are rolled up, and your opponents will realize that you probably have either aces in the hole or three of a kind.

When your trips are small, you have one of the best starting hands because it can be very deceptive.

The best situation with a small set is to be against two high hands and not against low hands.

If your hand appears to develop low, you can push it hard and jam the high hands.

Of course, if you have three wired aces, you have a dream hand.

If your opponents will play with you, build a giant pot.

But you need to slow-play three aces if you think you may drive out the high hands and get stuck playing against just the low hands.
